Privacy policy
What we collect, what we do not, and what happens when you click a product link.
Last updated: September 4, 2026
The short version
We do not have accounts, we do not sell anything directly, and we do not ask you for personal information except when you choose to email us through the contact form. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful, and affiliate links to fund the site.
What we collect
When you use the contact form
Your name, email address, chosen topic and message. These are sent to us by email so we can reply. We do not store them in a database, we do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not share them with anyone.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read and which recommendations they find useful. It collects standard web analytics data — pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and referring site — using cookies and similar technologies. We look at this in aggregate. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors and we could not do so from what we hold.
We also record an event when someone clicks a product link, so we can tell which recommendations are useful. That event records the merchant, the destination and the page it happened on. It does not record anything about you personally.
Google’s own handling of this data is governed by its privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking analytics scripts in your browser or with an extension. The site works normally either way.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and operational purposes. We use these only to keep the site running and to limit abuse of the contact form.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, so no passwords and no profiles
- No payment information — we never take a payment; retailers do
- No newsletter list
- No selling or renting of personal information to anyone, ever
- No advertising network trackers beyond the analytics described above
Affiliate links
Product links on this site route through our own /go/ path and then to a retailer, currently Amazon. When you arrive at the retailer they may set their own cookies to attribute a purchase to us. That is the retailer’s processing under their own privacy policy, not ours, and it is how we get paid.
We receive aggregated commission reporting from the retailer. We do not receive your name, your address, your payment details or a list of what you bought. See our affiliate disclosure for how the commercial side works.
Cookies
The site itself does not require cookies to function. Cookies present come from Google Analytics, and from retailers once you follow a product link. Blocking or clearing them does not break anything here.
Children
This site is written for adults buying and maintaining pools. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Your choices
- Block or clear cookies in your browser at any time
- Use Google’s opt-out add-on to exclude yourself from Analytics
- Do not use the contact form if you would rather not send us your email
- Ask us to delete a message you sent us — email info@splashandskimmer.com and we will
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and change the date at the top. We will not make a change that quietly broadens what we do with your data without saying so here.
