Bestway vs Summer Waves: the one with somewhere to upgrade to
Two brands selling near-identical frame pools. One of them also sells a steel wall you can stay with, and publishes warranty terms for both.

If you want a ladder and cover in the box
Bestway's Steel Pro MAX ships with a ladder and cover and publishes capacity at 90% fill. It also publishes its warranty by line.

The short version
- Bestway publishes warranty by line too — and its frame pools are 180 days, the same ballpark as Polygroup’s 90-day liner term.
- Bestway has an upgrade path. Hydrium is a steel-wall pool from the same brand with a two-year term; Summer Waves has no equivalent.
- Bestway ships more in the box on the pool here: a ladder and a cover as well as the pump.
- Bestway warranties only cover authorized sellers. A marketplace bargain may not be covered at all.
The criteria that actually separate them
These two compete on the same shelf at the same price, and neither publishes pump wattage. What can be checked is the warranty, the contents of the box, and whether the brand sells anything you would want next.
Warranty: read the line, not the brand
Bestway publishes durations per product line. Its frame pools — Steel Pro, Steel Pro MAX and Power Steel — carry 180 days, while the steel-wall Hydrium and APX 365 carry two years on liner and frame with 180 days on the pump. Ladders and covers are 90 days.
Polygroup publishes 90 days on above-ground pool liners and 180 days on pumps. So at the frame-pool level these two brands are genuinely close: months, not years, either way. Our brand guide puts both against the steel-wall makers, where the terms run to decades.
One Bestway condition is worth knowing before you chase a discount: the warranty applies only to products bought from Bestway or an authorized seller, and claims from unauthorized sellers may be rejected.
What is in the box
The Bestway pool here publishes 3,955 gallons at 90% fill on a 42-inch wall, with a 1,000-gallon filter pump, a Tritech 3-layer liner, and a ladder and cover included. For the Summer Waves pool we could not find a manufacturer page publishing capacity at all, and the pump supplied varies by SKU.
A ladder and cover in the box is worth real money, and it is the kind of thing that decides a close price comparison — our kit versus separate guide prices the parts individually.
The upgrade path nobody mentions
This is the strongest argument for Bestway and it has nothing to do with the pool in front of you. Bestway sells both ends of the category: cheap frame pools and the Hydrium steel-wall line that is built to stay up year-round. If your first pool works out and you want a wall next, you can stay with the same brand, the same parts store and the same fittings.
Summer Waves has no steel-wall line. Upgrading means starting again with a different maker, which our permanent pools roundup covers.
Who should buy which
Buy Bestway if you want the ladder and cover included, a published capacity to dose against, and the option of staying with the brand when you upgrade.
Buy Summer Waves if it is meaningfully cheaper or the only one in stock, and you are treating the pool as a one-or-two-season purchase anyway.
Buy from an authorized seller either way. Bestway says so explicitly, and a marketplace listing that saves twenty dollars can cost you the warranty entirely.
Bestway’s line-up, decoded
Bestway sells more lines than most buyers realize, and its warranty page is the clearest map of them. Fast Set is the inflatable top-ring pool. Steel Pro, Steel Pro MAX and Power Steel are the frame pools, all published at 180 days. Hydrium and APX 365 are the year-round steel-wall pools, published at two years on liner and frame with 180 days on the pump.
That grouping tells you what Bestway itself thinks each line is for. A 180-day term is a seasonal product. Two years on liner and frame is a pool meant to stay standing. Our brand guide sets those terms beside the steel-wall specialists, where warranties run to decades.
Parts channels compared
Bestway runs a first-party parts store covering Steel Pro MAX, Power Steel, Steel Pro, Fast Set, APX 365, Hydrium and Coleman, with a parts finder that matches components to a model. On a frame pool that is the difference between replacing a cracked joint and replacing the whole pool.
Polygroup also runs its own store and warranty channel with a published phone number and email address. Neither publishes a parts-availability window, so the practical rule is the same on both sides: buy spares while the line is current rather than after it is retired.
How to decide
Decide whether this is a one-season pool
If it is, buy on price and stock. If it is not, Bestway gives you somewhere to upgrade to without changing brand, parts store or fittings.Count what is in the box
A ladder and a cover included is real money. Compare fully-loaded prices rather than sticker prices.Confirm the seller is authorized
Bestway states plainly that its warranty applies only to products bought from Bestway or an authorized seller.Check the wall height against the recall
Anything 48 inches or taller from either brand should be checked against the 2025 notice, and the repair kit is free.Buy the cover either way
No warranty covers the water. A cover is what protects the heat, the chemistry and the level between swims.
On published evidence Bestway is the better-documented brand and the one with an upgrade path. Summer Waves competes on price and availability, which is a legitimate reason to buy it — as long as you do so knowing you will be calculating your own gallons.
What a season actually costs, either way
The purchase price is the smaller number over a summer, which is this site’s whole argument. On a pool of this size the recurring costs are water to fill, chemicals to keep it safe, cartridges to keep it clear and electricity to run the pump.
At the EPA WaterSense average of $6.06 per 1,000 gallons, filling a 3,955 gallon pool is about $24 — trivial once, and an annual line if the pool comes down each autumn. Chemicals scale with the same volume, and our chemical cost guide works a season out properly. Cartridges are the one people underestimate, because they are bought several times rather than once.
None of that differs meaningfully between these two brands, which is the point: the choice between Bestway and Summer Waves changes the purchase, not the running cost. What changes the running cost is a cover, a sensible pump schedule and testing before dosing — all covered in our annual running cost guide.
The short version
If you want the decision in two sentences: Bestway publishes more, includes more in the box on the pool compared here, and gives you somewhere to upgrade to without changing brand. Summer Waves is a legitimate buy when it is cheaper or when it is the one in stock, provided you accept a 90-day liner warranty and calculating your own gallons.
Neither is a long-term pool. Both are frame pools whose warranties are measured in months, and both are bought sensibly as a few seasons of swimming rather than as a permanent installation. When you want the version that stays up, our permanent pools roundup is a different set of products entirely.

What works
- 3,955 gallons is roughly 43% less water than the 18ft Intex — that is 43% less chemical spend, every season, forever
- 42-inch wall is far more forgiving of a yard that is nearly-but-not-quite level
- Ladder and cover included
- Cartridge filtration means no sand to buy or change
What doesn't
- Cartridges are a recurring consumable, and in a busy pool you will rinse one weekly
- 42 inches is shallow for adults who want to actually swim rather than sit
- Wattage is not published, so the running-cost math needs the label on the box
Skip it if: Adults who want to swim lengths. At 42 inches you are sitting in it, not swimming in it.
What it costs to run: The gallons are the story. Chemical dosing scales with volume, so 3,955 gallons costs meaningfully less to sanitize all season than 6,981 does. Filling it once at the EPA WaterSense national average of $6.06 per 1,000 gallons is about $24 of water; the same fill on the 18ft Intex is about $42.
Several seasons: Buy-once. Built and warranted to come back out of the box for a few years, if you store it properly.

What works
- Genuinely available when the two big brands are not, which in June is not a small thing
- 14 feet is a useful size that sits between the common 12 and 15 foot options
- Frame construction is broadly comparable to its competitors at the same size
What doesn't
- We could not find published capacity or flow-rate figures from the manufacturer, and we are not going to invent them
- Replacement parts and cartridges are less widely stocked than Intex or Bestway equivalents
- Less third-party documentation to check a claim against
Skip it if: Anyone who wants to compute their chemical dosing and running cost before they buy — the numbers to do it with are not published.
What it costs to run: We cannot cost this one honestly before purchase, because the manufacturer does not publish the two inputs the arithmetic needs. That is a real mark against it in a category where Intex and Bestway both publish gallons openly. Measure the fill yourself on day one.
One honest season: The cheapest setup that genuinely works for a season of real swimming. Nothing spare, nothing missing.
